Professor Bai-Chi Hsieh of the Institute of Education, National Sun Yat-sen University, is seeking one Full-Time Research Assistant for a National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) research project.
Project Title
Sustainable Phenological Literacy: Promoting Local Sustainability Literacy and Climate Resilience through Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Phenology
Job Responsibilities
As this project involves collaboration among Indigenous communities, elementary and secondary schools, museums, and academic institutions, the Research Assistant will play a key role in facilitating project implementation. Major responsibilities include:
Cross-site administration and budget management: Manage project budgets, reimbursement procedures, official correspondence, and general administrative affairs.
Stakeholder and community liaison: Serve as the primary contact among the university, partner schools, Indigenous community elders and knowledge holders, and collaborating museums.
Research ethics documentation: Maintain research ethics documentation in accordance with Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements, including obtaining and securely maintaining informed consent forms.
Fieldwork coordination and research support: Assist with site visits for environmental observations; collect, organize, and archive field data, including photographs, interview transcripts, and citizen science observation records.
International academic support and English-language communications: Assist the Principal Investigator with English literature reviews, international academic communications, conference coordination, and project internationalization.
Project reporting: Assist in compiling annual analytical reports, mid-term reports, and final project reports.
Perform other academic and administrative duties assigned by the Principal Investigator.
Qualifications

A master's degree from an accredited domestic or international university.

Professional Qualifications
Experience in administrative affairs, document processing and management, office software applications, presentation preparation, and research project administration.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, HTML, Canva, and related software.
Ability to work independently with strong research awareness and basic experience in qualitative research and fieldwork (or willingness to acquire these skills).
Intermediate or higher proficiency in English, including reading, writing, and communication. Experience handling international academic correspondence and reviewing English literature is preferred.
Personal Attributes
Strong intercultural awareness with the ability to build respectful and long-term relationships with Indigenous elders, youth, and community members.
Excellent communication, coordination, and teamwork skills.
Willingness to travel for fieldwork and site visits in remote and mountainous Indigenous communities. Applicants with a valid driver's license and the ability to drive are preferred.
Salary and Benefits
Salary will be determined in accordance with the Regulations Governing Research Project Assistant Personnel at National Sun Yat-sen University.
Starting monthly salary for applicants holding a master's degree is NT$42,130, with future adjustments based on performance and seniority.
Three-month probation period with full salary.
Benefits include Labor Insurance, National Health Insurance, employer pension contributions, and a year-end bonus (equivalent to 1.5 months' salary, prorated according to the employment period).

Saturdays and Sundays off, with holidays in accordance with the Taiwan government calendar.
Compensatory leave may be arranged when weekend work is required for project activities.
Appointment Period
This is a three-year NSTC-funded project.
Three-month probation period (full salary).
Formal appointment is offered on a one-year renewable basis.
Renewal is subject to satisfactory performance and project funding.
Project duration: August 1, 2026 – July 31, 2029.
